Two Crude Dudes is a side-scrolling platform beat'em up developed and published by Data East. It is known as Crude Buster in Japan.
The game was first released as an arcade game, before being ported to the Sega Mega Drive.
A sudden nuclear explosion devastates the city of New York
that combined with chemicals made by a mad scientist to turn many of the city's inhabitants into savage mutants willing to obey any command. The scientist establishes an organization he calls 'Big Valley' consisting of these mutants and many advanced military weapons and orders them to take the ruined city by force and refuse to let anyone enter without a fight which always ends in their favor. Desperate, the US government hires the help of two super-powered mercenaries who - with their own renegade style and appearance - are used to enter the city and eliminate the villains occupying it.
As with most platformers, players control the Two Crude Dudes (individually) by jumping, dodging and attacking their way through legions of enemies. Because the main characters are muscle-bound brawlers, they have the unique ability to pick up objects twice their own weight (ie: cars, traffic lights, stop signs, etc) and use said objects as weapons. While playing co-op, it is also possible for one player to pick up the other to use as a projectile too. Players heal in-real time by punching vending machines filled with 'Power Cola' upon which they must punch the machine in order for the soda cans to fall out, pick up the can and drink it (slowly) in order to heal.
