Cordia subcordata

Cordia subcordata is a tree native to Africa, Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands. It has large ovate leaves, orange tubular flowers, 3 to 5 cm diameter, borne in short stemmed clusters. The plant is known by a variety of names including Mareer Manjak, Snottygobbles, Glueberry, Narrow leafed Bird Lime Tree, Tou and Kou'.

Use

The fruit are edible and used in much the same manner as the fruit of the closely related and superficially similar Cordia dichotoma. The wood of the tree is soft but durable. In ancient Hawaii kou wood was used for cups, dishes and calabashes.
