Colin Simpson is a Republican member of the Wyoming House of Representatives, representing the 24th district since 1999. He currently serves as House Majority Leader, and is expected to serve as Speaker of the House next session.
Simpson's district covers Cody, Wyoming. He has previously served as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Co-Chairman of the Select Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse.
Simpson put his name forward to replace the late U.S. Senator Craig Thomas in Wyoming. He was seen as an early favorite for the position. When the State GOP Central Committee voted for the 3 nominees to be submitted to the governor for appointment Simpson was voted out on the 2nd ballot, however, he made the top ten.
Simpson also announced earlier in the year he would challenge U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Cubin in the primary for her seat. Cubin announced later that year that she was retiring and it was assumed he would be the frontrunner to succeed her. However he also announced he wouldn't seek the seat either.
He is mentioned as a possible candidate for Governor in 2 years or for U.S. Senate, when Senator Mike Enzi retires. Simpson stated in an interview back in the spring of 2008, that he is interested in running for Govenor, should Gov. Dave Freudenthal be term-limited.
