Chungju, city (1995 pop. 205,131), North Chungcheong prov., central South Korea. Chungju is an important agricultural center with a large fertilizer plant. It is linked to Seoul by the Han River. The Chungju Lake reservoir to the east is a recreation area.
Chungju is a city in North Chungcheong province, South Korea. Namsan is a mountain located in the city.

The city is famous for the annual martial arts festival held in October.

Festival

Chungju city officially has held martial arts festival which is quite unusual events in South Korea. It started the year of 1998, this festival is held annually in October. The theme is "Meeting of the five-thousand-year-old Soul" and the world martial arts.

In 2007, foreign players from 20 nations join martial arts festival. Many sports was shown such as sambo of Russia, Muay Thai of Thailand.

Chungju Lake

Chungju Lake is the country biggest multi-purpose dam that links together Chungju and its neighborhoods. It is manmade lake with the broadest space of water.

Being big, it is also clean quality lake. Woraksan Mt and Songnae valley are located nearby. Additionally, this area has cherished cave area/springs.

Products

Chungju is famous for its production of apples. The biggest reason is because of large amount of daylight and high difference of temperatures. Agriculture of apple started 300 years ago from China and it was 1912 when the city officially began to plant trees. The scale is the widest in Chungcheongbuk-do.
