Christo Pimpirev

Christo Pimpirev (Христо Пимпирев, born 1953 in Sofia) is a scientist and Antarctic explorer. He is a Professor of Geology at the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, with M.S. degree in Geology in 1978, and Ph.D. in 1988, both from Sofia University.

Prof. Pimpirev is a doyen of the Bulgarian Antarctic Program. He took part in the first Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition during the 1987/88 austral summer, and has been the leader of the annual Bulgarian scientific campaigns in Antarctica. He is the founding Chairman of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.

Honour

Pimpirev Glacier and Pimpirev Beach on Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands are named for Christo Pimpirev.
