Capresso, Inc. was founded by Michael Kramm in 1994.
Kramm originally came to the US from his native Germany in 1976 to develop the US market for Krups. As President of Krups USA, he introduced the American consumer to high-end Euro-style coffeemakers and launched the US in-home espresso market, now estimated at $200 million retail.
Capresso produces the Gadget Guru Product Award winning CoffeeTEAM, a programmable coffee maker with a built-in conical burr grinder and the Capresso MT500, a drip coffee maker with stainless steel lined heating element.
In 2003, Capresso, Inc. entered into a joint venture to market automatic coffee centers with Jura AG of Switzerland. Jura is the global market leader in the premium segment of automatic coffee centers, which it sells in over 40 countries.
The name "Capresso" – originally suggested by Doris, Kramm’s wife of more than 35 years – combines the words "cappuccino" and "espresso".
