Crashdïet is a hard rock band from Stockholm, Sweden. They are a part of the sleaze metal subgenre of glam metal. The band has released two albums, 2005's Rest in Sleaze and 2007's The Unattractive Revolution.
History
Early years
The band was originally formed in
2000. Taking influence from
Guns N' Roses,
Mötley Crüe,
Skid Row, and
Hanoi Rocks, Crashdïet built up a
cult following with the release of their first demos, several of which were released on their official website via
download. In
2002, the band split up, and vocalist Dave Lepard reformed the band with members from the current lineup.
Rest in Sleaze
In
2005, the band released their debut album,
Rest in Sleaze, and embarked on a Swedish tour in the fall of 2005 to support the album. The album did overall well, although they weren't that known outside of Sweden. The band also played at
Download Festival in the
United Kingdom in 2005, to support the album.
Crashdïet has released four singles from their debut album "Rest In Sleaze", including "Riot in Everyone", "Breakin' the Chainz", "Knokk 'Em Down" and "It's a Miracle".
Tragedy strikes
On
January 20,
2006, vocalist
Dave Lepard (only 25 years old) took his own life after a bout of depression which he hid from family and friends. After the death of Lepard, the band announced the following statement via their website:
"We feel that we want to carry on the Crashdïet legacy, which will keep Dave's spirit alive for a long long time..
It would be a shame NOT to spread the message across the whole world and let them know what real music should sound like!"
New singer
On
January 22,
2007, the band announced the addition of a new vocalist, H. Olliver Twisted. They officially released their entire debut live performance with Olliver via their website for free download for their fans. Later the band also announced plans for a new album
The Unattractive Revolution, and a single, "
In The Raw", to be released on
September 5,
2007, in Sweden.
The Unattractive Revolution
On
September 20,
2007 it was rumored that Twisted had left the band. Reports claimed he had sent the rest of the band an email saying he did not wish to be a part of it any longer. These claims were later denied by the band's bassist, Peter London, and the band's record label.
The album was released on
October 3,
2007.
On February 23, 2008 the band announced via their official website that the second single from their new album will be "Falling Rain".
Twisted's departure
On
July 13,
2008 it was announced via the bands myspace and official website that
H. Olliver Twisted had came to an agreement with the band due to not being committed enough to go their separate ways.
