CKKW

CKKW is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 1090 AM in Waterloo, Ontario. Owned by CTVglobemedia, the station airs an oldies format branded as Oldies 1090.

The station originally began broadcasting in 1959 at 1320 AM, until it moved to its current AM frequency in 1975.

On April 10, 2008, CKKW applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to convert the station from the AM band to the FM band at 99.5 MHz. The application indicates that CKKW will keep its present oldies format on FM; however, it is not unusual for stations to change their formats following an AM-to-FM conversion, notwithstanding claims to the contrary during the CRTC approval process (e.g. CJCH, CKPT, CHTN). On October 3, 2008, CKKW was given approval to convert to the FM band. The 99.5 MHz frequency was formerly occupied by CIKZ-FM from 2003, until it moved to its current frequency in 2005, due to interference from WDCX-FM in Buffalo, New York.
