The station signed on the air on July 7, 1959 under the ownership of CHAB Ltd., the parent company of Moose Jaw radio station CHAB. It later switched its affiliation to CTV on August 25, 1962, also setting up Regina station CHRE-TV on the air as its semi-satellite on December 21 that year. On July 18, 1969, the stations were purchased by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, re-naming them as CBKMT (Moose Jaw) and CBKRT (Regina) respectively on September 13, 1969.
The stations' call-signs were changed once more, to their current ones of CBKT-1 (Moose Jaw), and CBKT (Regina) on July 31, 1978. This became the end of CBC Moose Jaw as an independent station. It is now a rebroadcaster for CBKT Regina.
