Wikipedia

Cégep de Saint-Laurent is a Cégep located in the Saint-Laurent borough of the city of Montreal, Quebec. It is a few doors south of Vanier College, another Cégep. The College of General and Vocational Education is affiliated with the ACCC, and CCAA.

History

In 1967, several institutions were merged and became public ones, when the Quebec system of CEGEPs was created. The institution was founded as Collège Saint-Laurent in 1847. Du Collège Street and consequently the Montreal metro station Du Collège were named for it. It was a major feature of St. Laurent, and the reason the town (at that time) was known as a college town.

It was converted into a Cégep in 1968.

Programs

The CEGEP offers two types of programs: pre-university and technical. The pre-university programs, which take two years to complete, cover the subject matters which roughly correspond to the additional year of high school given elsewhere in Canada in preparation for a chosen field in university. The technical programs, which take three-years to complete, applies to students who wish to pursue a skill trade. In addition Continuing education and services to business are provided.

Campus

On the campus of Cégep Saint-Laurent are located the Saint-Laurent Museum of Art and the Saint-Laurent Hockey Rink (one of two civic indoor rinks).

The Saint-Laurent Art Museum is a featured spot on the Montreal Museums Day free tour of Montreal museums.
