After 1870 he served in the French department of education, as an inspector of schools and a director of primary education, resigning in 1886 to become professor of pedagogy at the Sorbonne. He produced the Dictionnaire de pédagogie (1882-93). From 1902 to 1914 and again from 1919 to 1924, he was a member of the chamber of deputies and worked actively for civil rights. Édouard-Montpetit is a station on the Blue Line of the Montreal Metro rapid transit system, operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM). It is located in the Côte-des-Neiges area of borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce of Montreal, Quebec, Canada .

Origin of name

Édouard-Montpetit metro station takes its name from the street under which it lies: Édouard-Montpetit Boulevard. The boulevard in turn takes its name from Édouard Montpetit (1881–1954), a Quebec lawyer, economist and academic closely linked with the nearby Université de Montréal.

Particularities

Édouard-Montpetit metro station was designed to be able to provide a connection with the Agence métropolitaine de transport's Montreal—Deux Montagnes commuter rail line. If such a connection were implemented, high-speed elevators would run from the metro station to the train station in the Mount Royal Tunnel, 50 metres below.
