It held 11,000 people, with seating for 4,000. The main grandstand includes corporate facilities, and with a smaller grandstand on the other side which has more seats and a TV broadcast box. The rest of the ground is surrounded by a grass hill.
In the mid-1990's, sports manufacturer Topper sponsored both the team and the ground, and was known as Topper Stadium. When the company went into administration, it withdrew its sponsorship, and it reverted to its original name.
Today, Breakers Stadium is known as The Gardens after extensive re-development over 2005 and 2006. While local Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer can still be played on the venues infield it is now Newcastle's premier greyhound racing track.
