In some ways this film reminds me of Guy Maddin's brilliant 2007 docudrama/ fantasy, My Winnepeg. Like that film, Of Time And The City is ostensibly about the history and transformation of a specific city (in this case Liverpool), but in fact is a poetic and almost absurdly personal expression of the director's decidedly mixed feelings about his notional home.
