The objective of the site is to document every single professional boxer and boxing match from the instigation of the Queensberry Rules up to the present times.

As of December 2006 the BoxRec database contained the records of 319,592 boxers and 1,138,288 bouts, an increase from 306,456 boxers and 1,089,689 contained in July. The encyclopaedia contains 30,752 articles.

BoxRec publishes ratings for all active boxers and all time ratings.

The website is edited by a mix of boxing commissions and volunteer editors from many countries around the world.
