The new
Bathgate railway station is a projected
railway station serving the town of
Bathgate in
West Lothian,
Scotland. It will be located closed to the junction of the former
Edinburgh and Bathgate Railway and the former
Bathgate and Coatbridge Railway to the east of the 1986 (and former E&BR terminus)
station.
History
In 2005, the
Scottish Executive announced that the closed section of line between
Drumgelloch and
Bathgate will be rebuilt as a double tracked electrified railway and has been termed the
Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link. This will result in the closure of the current
Bathgate railway station to be replaced by a new station on the site of this former
Bathgate and Coatbridge Railway station. It will connect with the
North Clyde Line at Drumgelloch to the
Edinburgh to Bathgate Line at Bathgate and open up a
fourth rail link between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
