Bates Baronets

There are two Bates Baronetcies.

Bates of Gwyn Castle, Flint, Bellefield and Manydown

Created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 13 May 1880 for Edward Bates. Sir Edward Bates was MP for Plymouth from 1871 to 1880 and from 1885 to 1892. Sir Percy Bates, the 4th Baronet, was Chairman of the Cunard Steam Ship Company and High Sheriff of Cheshire in 1920. He was also made a G.B.E. in 1920. Sir Geoffrey Bates, the 5th Baronet, was High Sheriff of Flintshire in 1969 and was decorated with an M.C in 1942.

Bates of Magherabuoy, Londonderry

Created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 7 June 1937 for (Richard) Dawson Bates. Sir Dawson Bates served as MP for East Belfast from 1921 to 1929, and for Belfast Victoria from 1929 to 1943. He was Minister of Home Affairs, Northern Ireland from 1921 to 1943.
