Sesame Street has many international versions across the world. Each uses some original characters, created specifically to represent their own culture. The following list highlights some of these characters. All characters are

- Finchen, a (former male, now female) snail (on and off from 1978, 1989-present)
- Rumpel, an Oscar the Grouch-like male character that lives in a rainbarrel. He has Gustav, a pet caterpillar (1989-present)

- Kapitan Basa, a superhero that loves to read.
- Sitsiritsit and Alibangbang, two inquisitive space aliens.
- Sultan Parachibum, a datu or chieftain of Agamanyog whose official advisers are his grandchildren.
- Ningning and Gingging, two sisters. Ningning is the eldest and a serious type, while Gingging is younger and playful.
- Noli de Kasyo, the prolific journalist.
- Irma Daldal, a stage-struck, faddish, shallow and cheap actress who believes she is the most talented person in all of show business.
- Direk, a movie-and-television director, who tries everything to make a star out of the actress Irma Daldal.

- Ferrão, brown-colored version of Oscar the Grouch that lived inside a bottomless barrel in the Sesame Street square.

- Zeliboba, a 9-foot furry blue tree spirit who enjoys dancing
- Businka, a bright pink Muppet who finds joy in everything
- Kubik, the resident pensive problem-solver who used to be a school teacher
- Kami, who raised controversy in the USA, due to her HIV+ status
