A general election was held in Barbados on 2 September 1976. The Barbadian people elected 24 members to the House of Assembly for a term of five years.

The opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) defeated the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), capturing the largest share (17) of seats in the election.
