Süper Lig 2008–09

The 2008-09 Süper Lig season (a.k.a. Turkcell Super League due to sponsorship) is the 51th since its establishment. It has started in 22 August 2008 and will end in 31 May 2009. 18 Teams will compete in the league as 15 of teams remain from previous season. Other three teams are Kocaelispor and Antalyaspor as the champions and runners-up, and Eskişehirspor as the play-offs winner of Bank Asya First League previous season.

Events

Pre-Season

Before the season started officially, the teams had training camps generally abroad. Some of the destinations were Austria for Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe; and Germany for Galatasaray. On 23 July wednesday, the fixture of upcoming season was drawn at Turkish Football Federation Centre Facilities in Ankara. According to the fixture, rough and tumble Istanbul derbies will have been held as Fenerbahçe against Galatasaray on the 10th, Fenerbahçe against Beşiktaş on 13th and Galatasaray against Beşiktaş on 16th match day.
