February 24 1897) was a prominent lawyer in
Huntsville,
Texas, as well as a Texas state legislator and judge. He was removed from his judgeship during
Reconstruction by a
Republican governor and subsequently joined the law firm of Gray and Botts, renamed Gray, Botts, and Baker during his partnership there. The firm is now known as
Baker Botts.
Captain Baker
Capt. James Addison Baker (born
January 10 1857, died
August 2 1941) was a prominent Texas lawyer and businessman best known for his work in saving
Rice University in a series of lawsuits and a murder.
Baker College at Rice University is named after him. He was a prominent member of Baker Botts.
