Asama Shrine

Asama Shrine

is a type of Shinto Shrine in Japan. There are approximately 1300 Asama Shrines in Japan, and they worship Konohanasakuya-hime as a goddess. The head shrine is Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha (富士山本宮浅間大社) located in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture.

Faith in the goddess of these shrines is related to faith in Mount Fuji. Therefore many Asama Shrines are located near Mount Fuji. Asama means "volcano" in old Japanese, and Asama Shrine was named by reason of enshrining the god of volcanoes.
