Arppookara is a beautiful village at a distance of 8km from Kottayam district. The main attraction is the backwaters in Arppookkara. Agriculture is the main source of income. It does have a medical college, an engineering college and an arts college. The medical college high school is famous in the sports map of Kerala, many sports persons contributed to Kerala from the school.

People live here in communal harmony. There are many churches and temples here, although there are less muslims.

Arppookkara is blessed with several kathakali gurus. Prominent among them is kudamaloor Karunakaran Nair Praveen(chandu) who played a key role in spreading rural telephony in the area.
