Andronico's is a supermarket chain based primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its first store was founded in 1929 on Berkeley's Solano Avenue by Greek immigrant Frank Andronico Since then, thirteen additional stores have opened and four have since closed. The Walnut Creek store closed December 22 2006, and the Danville location closed on September 16, 2006, after eight years, and was sold to its rival, Lunardi's Super Markets.

Andronico's is currently in its third generation of ownership.

Market positioning

The content and presentation is upscale, with higher prices, higher quality, more exotic selections, and bright, spacious presentation, fewer total items, and smaller square footage than the major popular priced markets of Safeway and Lucky.

Financial Decisions

Andronico's has been suffering much competition from other grocers, particularly in the Contra Costa County area. Within three months both of their east of Berkeley locations were shuttered. Following the Danville store closure, CEO Bill Andronico declared Andronico's store closures would be done, yet three months during the closure of the Walnut Creek Store, similar assurances were again made. The stores were closed to reduce company debt, projects on remodeling the remaining eight stores are proposed.
