The Amity Affliction are a post-hardcore group from Brisbane, Australia they were formed in the year 2004 and have since then released 2 EPs and a soon to be released album titled 'Severed Ties' on Boomtown Records.
The group formed in a small South-East Queensland town, in mid 2005, the band released their debut self-titled EP through Modern Music/Sony BMG. The release earned the band critical acclaim and a solid fan base throughout Australia with a sound that was compared to the likes of Underoath, Evergreen Terrace and Alexisonfire. After a short hiatus and line-up change, which saw the addition of Trad on keyboards, the band released their sophomore record in the form of "High Hopes" which saw the group touring Australia 8 times in support of and cementing themselves as an iconic band in the Australian hardcore scene known for their energetic live performances and party image.
The band is now set to release their debut album 'Severed Ties' which will feature many guest vocals by prominent Australian vocalists and an Australian Tour in support of the release alongside House vs. Hurricane, A Secret Death and Rex Banner.
The band has also shared the stage with - groups such as Eighteen Visions, Alexisonfire, Shai Hulud, Anberlin, Rufio, Silverstein, Champion, Every Time I Die, Strike Anywhere, Emery and prominent Australian acts such as I Killed the Prom Queen, Parkway Drive, Carpathian, The Getaway Plan, Against, Mourning Tide, Nazarite Vow, House Vs. Hurricane and Miles Away.
In 2008 The Amity Affliction released their debut album Severed Ties on Boomtown Records in support of the release they are embarking on a national tour with House Vs. Hurricane, A Secret Death and Rex Banner
Vocalist Joel Birch also runs The Kingdom of Sad Machines design studio who have created many designs for Australian bands and publish the Death Before Dishonour and Artillery magazines.
