Alamanda, a major panchayati village, once politically dominated by Rajus but later by Koppala Velamas is on the way from Kottavalasa to Vizianagaram. This village is populated by Koppula Velamas, a peasant and one of politically dominant communities of Uttarandhra. Sri Simhadri Lagudu, ex-Chairman of Zilla Parishad of Vizianagram district is a noted leader hailing from Koppula Velama community.
