In 2004, a volume of his poetry about early experiences in Somalia was published under the title At Noonday with the Gods of Somalia. Jama continued to writing in Huriyah and other magazines.
In 2007, Michael Luongo's Gay Travels in the Muslim World, for which Jama wrote the foreword, was published.
In 2008, Jama published Illegal Citizens, subtitled Queer Lives in the Muslim World, following the lives of 33 LGBT Muslims in 22 countries.
