Adarna House is the first and largest publisher of Filipino children's books in the Philippines. It was founded more than 20 years ago by Virgilio Almario, Philippine National Artist for Literature. Its publications now total more than 200 titles, geared mainly towards Filipino children and consisting mostly of children's storybooks. One of its earliest titles, Ibong Adarna, is still its bestselling title of all time.
Adarna House also publishes educational support materials such as manuals for parents, teachers and daycare workers. It also works with local and foreign children-oriented agencies to extend its basic children's book publishing mission. For example, a set of picture books dealing with culturally sensitive topics was developed and published by Adarna House in partnership with UNICEF. A project aimed at helping public school teachers become better at teaching beginning readers is in partnership with McDonald's and the Philippine Department of Education-NCR. A collaborative effort with a teen magazine, a library, an MTV show, and a national daily newspaper is aimed at reaching teenagers and young adults.
