Abel joined Gandhi in 1996, before the recording of their first album El Jardín del Corazón. He knew the rest of the band from their highschool years. He began playing bass at age 16, inspired by Steve Harris from Iron Maiden and Cliff Burton from Metallica. From the beginning he liked the bass, but mostly he wanted to write as a way of expression. He is a lyricist and songwriter, and has a dark style, but sensitive at the same time, as he grew up listening to progressive bands such as Genesis and Pink Floyd. He currently teaches bass and music privately, and when not performing or teaching, he takes care of his cattle and ranch in Alajuela. He enjoys playing and watching soccer games, reading, and listening to music. He is the only married member of Gandhi, and has a 3-year-old daughter named Claudia.
