Agenebode is a town in Nigeria, located by the banks of Niger River in Edo State of Nigeria; Agenebode is also the headquarters of Etsakor-East council, in Edo State of Nigeria and the traditional capital of Weppa Wanno Kingdom.
Agenebode is divided into different quarters, these are Ighaewo, Egbado, Otoukwe, igegbode (upland) as a result of the gradual development of Agenebode town, the town has now spread towards Emokweme and Ivioghe villages.
The traditional ruler of Weppa Wanno kingdom is called the 'Okumagbe' which can be translated as the 'unifier'. The stool of the Okumagbe is rotated among the five kinship groups. Presently Dr.Eghabor, a renowed Chartered Accountant and Industrialist is the Okumagbe of Weppa Wanno, and he is from the Iviokpisa kinship group.
Agenebode people speak the Afemai/Etsako language with weppa wanno dialect.
Agenebode people are Christians of the Catholic faith, this is because the Roman Catholic Church first abode was at Agenebode in 1882, although there are also few Muslims and traditional worshipers.
Agenebode has some educational institutions the recent being the College of Agriculture, that is about to take off in the Town. Agenebode as a town has many secondary and primary schools, prominent amongst these schools are the St. Peters Grammar School, Ogbaki Primary School, Omaizie Primary School, Ogwozima-Ofukpo Primary School, Egbado Primary School, Army Day Secondary School, Catholic Secondary School to mention a few.
The main means of transportation in Agenebode is by motorcycles, buses and cars. While canoes,boats and ferry transports people across the River Niger to Idah in Kogi State. Traditional occupations include fishing and canoe-building. Local agriculture produces maize, nuts, Groundnuts, Sorghum, vegetables, Potatoes, and fruits.
