They won their twentieth Southeastern Conference title by defeating the Florida Gators by the score of 28-21 on December 5 in the inaugural SEC Championship Game. The team then capped off the season by winning the 1992 football national championship. They defeated the Miami Hurricanes by a score of 34 to 13 in the 1993 Sugar Bowl on January 1, 1993.
