• 1830 – Ground is broken in Charleston, South Carolina, for the first railroad to use steam locomotives in South Carolina.
• 1871 – The government of Victoria, Australia, reopens Essendon railway station, Melbourne, for service.
• 1882 – The first train from Cincinnati, Ohio, on the Cincinnati Northern Railway, departs for Dayton, Ohio.
• 1899 – Hull Electric purchases the Aylmer-Hull, Quebec line which it had been operating under a lease agreement from Canadian Pacific Railway.

• 2003 – Following its purchase of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and its subsidiaries, operations begin on the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway in New England, Quebec and New Brunswick.
